Parents

ITACA works with mothers and fathers who, with their children, question themselves about the meaning of growing up. The association offers psychological or educational support, and/or psychotherapy to individuals and couples who have the courage to learn more about how to deal with the relationships they build in their everyday lives.

ITACA also works with parents, children and adolescents who are living moments of existential difficulty as growing blocks, trauma, disease, mental or relational distress. The association offers help in times when people, in complex environments, want to enrich their experiential baggage by being supported, and being able to support themselves.

ITACA meets men and women at the crossroads of different realities: family, school, work. Fathers and mothers who in a moment of difficulty, during evolutionary crisis with their children and adolescents, feel the need for confrontation and to stop and reflect, developing and sharing strategies for action.2. What we offer

1.Training for Parents and Parenting Support

ITACA considers the training an important opportunity for connection, relationship, and sharing of knowledge. A fundamental aspect is the awareness that parents are holders of cognitive and emotional skills, and that they are a big resource. Specifically, the trainers are taking into consideration the different point of views of the people involved, and their ways of relating, by listening to emerging demands regarding problems and life stories, welcoming the desire to know and the curiosity to learn. The training of a father or a mother is a dialogue that promotes changes, with important consequences regarding the social context.

ITACA is inspired by the basic assumptions of Transactional Analysis, declined in an educational perspective (E. Berne, 1972; Romanini, 1999; G. Barrow – T. Newton, 2016). This shapes a methodology and working practices based on the dignity of individuals, meant to encourage free thought.

Concretely, ITACA offers training programs and parenting support for people involved in facing the different stages of child-evolution, for families, infancy, childhood, adolescence and young adults. The interventions are made with a contractual approach. The activities are held by trainers in Transactional Analysis who have gained specific training curricula certified by EATA (European Association of Transactional Analysis), and they include meetings, targeted courses, thematic workshops, short and long-term projects, involving a network of professionals in Italy and Europe.

2.Psychotherapy

ITACA believes that therapeutic interventions are fundamentally based on “a safe atmosphere to ensure and/or facilitate the innate evolutionary process of the child, adolescent or family” (D. Munari Poda, 1999). Parents are seen as integral part of the care process, “co-therapists” who assist the therapeutic work with respect and distinction of the roles. You will recognize all psychotherapists who belong to our network by the fact that they are following this philosophy.

ITACA has built a network of contacts with psychotherapists and teams operating in different sectors, in specialized centres or private practices in Italy and Europe, offering services at multiple levels involving:

  • the family
  • the family and the school
  • the infant-mother-father triad
  • the parental couple
  • the child
  • the adolescent
  •  the young adult
